When We Gather

Awake gathers Sunday mornings around 10 a.m.: doors open at 10 a.m. for coffee and the opening prayer happens around 10:10 a.m. Gatherings last until 11:15 a.m. or so.

Awake meets at the Aurora Commons: 8914 Aurora Ave. N., Seattle, WA

How We Gather

  • Our size allows a flexibility we embrace to encounter one another and the Divine through various means on a Sunday. Depending on the day you may find us sharing a meal, telling stories, making art, or inviting you into some kind of embodied practice. We value good questions and short sermons. We always end in communion, offered to everyone, our most beloved embodied practice of our faith.

  • We see life together as one of social artistry, with our faith mediated through a collective imagination and connection to one another, creation, and the Spirit. Art is woven into gatherings as a way to engage, respond, or create together. Art invites us into wonder, beauty, tension, imagination, lament, and opens us to the Divine in more expansive ways.

    Artists in Residence

We invite visiting artists throughout the year to join for a 5 or 6 week season and co-create our weekly gatherings. Each season has a theme that teachers and artists use to reflect and draw inspiration to curate gatherings.

Kids + Youth

  • Kids are valued as full participants and contributors to community. During gatherings kids four and older begin with us at Aurora Commons. Midway through they journey to the Corner Store for explorations in Godly Play, a guided time of imaginative interaction with stories of Jesus, and come back for communion at the end.

Kids under 4 are welcome in the nursery for the entire time.

Note: Any families who wish to keep their children with them during worship are welcome to do so.

  • Twice a month our youth share a time that’s just for them either during or after the Sunday gathering. There’s a mix of teaching, conversation, reflection, games and outings. Contact youth director Ryan here for the upcoming schedule.

Twice a year the youth curate and lead our gathering and they're some of our favorite.

LISTEN

we value creating something together on a Sunday, which doesn’t bode well for nice audio of a singular voice. We do want to be hospitable though, so if you are curious about Awake here are some recent snippets of sermon moments:
